The Memory of the Thread

A Homage to the Jewish People of Veroia in Macedonia / Greece, people who lost their lives in Auswitch.

Our Guests of Honor will be the city survivors who are currently living in Israel and in America,the ambassador of Israel, all the greek jewish communities and of course all the Greeks of Veroia and all the cities nearby.

A red thread will be crossing the city of Veroia and it will have its beginning in the Jewish Synagogue and will end up in the railway station of the city - the place where the death trains awaited the people in order to take them to Auswitch.

The thread is the path to torture, but also the memory which must not fade away…

In the jewish synagogue we will have a short ceremony in the memory of those we were killed and after that we will march in the same route where these people marched in order to meet their death.

All along the road we will have 460 volunteers - the number of the people who were exterminated.

As soon the people in front pass through them - the volunteers will be joining the crowd. They hold a small candle in their hands. 

The march should be silent and mystifying as the whole procedure should be. In the platform of the railway station there will be an orchestra awaiting, along with a choir of 100 people.

On the train tracks there will be suitcases, shoes, and personal belongings of the missing people ( a bible, a rag doll, old clothes etc )

A standing violinist plays the main theme of the Schindlers List - the movie. The concert gets underway!

Beautiful Greece - a non profit organisation in collaboration with Soprano Sonia Theodoridou and Conductor Theodoros Orfanidis are bringing this unique project in order to honour the Jewish People of Veroia. 

In times when history seems to be repeating itself in a very tragic way, it is very important not to forget so we will not make the same mistakes again!

Η ΜΝΗΜΗ ΤΟΥ ΝΗΜΑΤΟΣ

Την 1^η Μαϊου 1943 οι Ναζί οδήγησαν πεζούς με την βία 460 περίπου Εβραίους της Βέροιας στον σιδηροδρομικό σταθμό της πόλης, τους υποχρέωσαν να επιβιβαστούν σε φορτηγά-βαγόνια για ζώα για να τους μεταφέρουν στη Θεσσαλονίκη και από κει, λίγες μέρες μετά, στο στρατόπεδο εξόντωσης Άουσβιτς-Μπιρκενάου της Πολωνίας, απ΄ όπου δεν επέστρεψε ποτέ κανείς.

Το κόκκινο νήμα είναι η μετωνυμία της «γραμμής του αίματος» – της πορείας του θανάτου που ακολούθησαν οι Εβραίοι της Βέροιας ξεκινώντας από την εβραϊκή συνοικία και διασχίζοντας κατά μήκος τον κεντρικό δρόμο της πόλης μέχρι τον Σιδηροδρομικό Σταθμό.

460 ζωντανοί, ξετυλίγοντας ένα νοερό και πραγματικό κόκκινο νήμα, ακολουθούν την πορεία του θανάτου, μια πορεία τριών χιλιομέτρων: από την Συναγωγή της εβραϊκής συνοικίας μέχρι τον Σιδηροδρομικό Σταθμό της Βέροιας, όπου τους περίμεναν τα βαγόνια που θα τους οδηγούσαν στον θάνατο.

Ζητάμε την βοήθεια σας για να οργανώσουμε μία τελετή μνήμης για τα θύματα του Ολοκαυτώματος της Πόλης που γεννήθηκα - Την Βέροια!

Με την φωνή μου υπερασπίζομαι τους αδυνάτους, με την φωνή μου πολεμώ την λήθη.
